He has a D.N.B in Nephrology from Apollo Chennai under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Dr. M K Mani. - Completed specialty training in Nephrology under the valuable guidance of Padma Bhushan Dr. M. K. Mani at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai- a 500 bedded tertiary care hospital.The Nephrology department at Apollo is a very busy unit with 6 consultants in Nephrology. The unit has a separate Renal and transplant ICU and separate wards dedicated to nephrology.On an average 2000 dialysis are done per month and the department is also one of the few centers in the country which performs active Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. Annually around 200 renal transplantations are carried out in the unit which includes adult, cadaver and pediatric transplants. The department is also the largest centre for performing Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) in ICU in India.
- Am one of the very few nephrologists in India who can independently initiate, run and terminate the CRRT machine.
- During residency, duties included attending to out patients and indoor patients and performing procedures like hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, jugular & femoral catheter insertion, native and transplant kidney biopsies. Was also independently managing transplant and renal ICUs.
- Done about 700 native kidney & 300 graft biopsies, 1000 jugular catheter insertions, during residency.
- Was actively involved in evaluating both donor and recipient for renal transplantations. Have regularly performed perfusion of the kidney during renal transplantation during posting as a registrar in charge of renal transplantation program.
Research Activities
- Was involved in various research projects that were being carried out at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
- Started D.M (Nephrology) program for the first time in Karnataka, and currently training students to become Nephrologists.
- Started Renal transplant program for the first time in a government institute in Karnataka and successfully completed 25 transplants in the past year.
- Currently actively involved in research and academic activities at the Institute of Nephro–Urology, Bangalore.
- Also involved in teaching M.D. and D.N.B. post graduates in medicine from Bangalore Medical College and various other government medical colleges and private hospitals from all over Karnataka.
- Teach Post Graduate students in Medicine & Family Medicine at Mallige Hospital.
- Train District Medical Officers (post M.D.) and Dialysis & Laboratory technicians in basic nephrology and also in independently handling dialysis patients.
- Also involved in teaching post M.D. students for fellowship in dialysis, a one year program.
